Free Grants For Women – Proper Planning To Get The Most Money For Your College Education

Going to college is expensive. However, if you are a woman, not only are you eligible for federal and state government grants for education, there are women-only grants awarded by charities for women. To receive the most money from free grants for women, you need to start gathering information early and plan properly.

Fortunately, the system for awarding free money for college for women has become much less complicated since the inception of the Higher Education Act of 1965. With 50 years to cut away unnecessary red tape, it has never been easier to apply for federal government grants for education.

Right now, the procedure for getting free grants for single women going to college is to first enroll in a college. Then you can go to the FAFSA website to fill up their form. From there, you take the results to your college’s financial aid office where they will decide how much money to give you.

Be aware that just because the FAFSA system calculated that you are eligible for $10,000 of grant money this year, your college can override the decision and give you far less. This has been a complaint made against some for-profit colleges – they spread the free grant money thin to attract more students and then force their over-committed students to take up student loans so that the college can make bigger profits.

When applying for minority grants and free grants for women, remember to look beyond the federal government’s FAFSA system. Not all grants are awarded by the Department of Education. Some grants and scholarships are awarded by the HRSA, e.g. the Nursing Scholarship Program. In addition to that, state governments also award a lot of tuition grants subsidies to their residents.

It is important to start gathering information early if you need financial aid to go to college. However, it is just as important to make a proper plan because many grants and scholarships open and close around the same time. You often only have a two or three month window to apply for grants. This is especially if you are an adult student who needs to work to support your family – your time is limited. Blindly trying to apply for everything under the sun will not work out.

You have three major decisions to make – apply for the easiest grants, apply for the grants with the most money, or apply for the greatest number of grants. If you started gathering your information early enough, you might be able to do two things at once, e.g. applying for the greatest number of easy grants.

Getting free money for college for women is not rocket science. As a woman, you can apply for most government grants, and there are also tuition grant subsidies given by charities only to women. The biggest difficulty is finding them and applying for as many of them as you can.
