Do you ever feel like you’re just drifting through life? As if things happen to you, outside of your control, and that you’re really not in charge of your life? Do you sometimes look around and wonder how in the world your life turned out this way, and what you can do to change it? We’re not talking about people who are homeless or anything like that. We’re referring to people who are just sort of stuck in a rut, and wonder how they got there and how to get out. Well, for most people, it all boils down to ignoring one of the most important tasks in life – setting and achieving goals.
Does that shock you? It may well come as a surprise, but it’s the absolute truth. Setting and achieving goals is the difference between having a life you love and one where you’re just existing, floating through life and hoping things work out for the best. Well, the bad news is that the probably won’t work out for the best. Not if you keep doing things the way you’ve been doing them all along. They say one definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
And if you keep gliding through life without specific goals and objectives, and expect things to change, that’s simply not rational. Things change because you make them change. If you want your life to be different, you have to make it different. It’s not enough to sit around and wish you’d done this or that at one time or another, or make vague resolutions that one of these days you’re going to turn your life around. No, you need to get serious about setting and achieving goals. That’s how you change your life, and until you start doing it, you’ll stay in your rut.
