You’ll be miles ahead of any competition who don’t have a plan, but are just hoping things work out for the best.
But the truth is, without setting career goals, it’s very unlikely that you’ll be satisfied with your career down the road. When you just go with the flow, you can wind up in some pretty unpleasant places, doing things you never dreamed you’d be doing for a living. When you set goals, you always have your short term, medium range, and long term objectives in mind, and you’ve got a plan for reaching them. You won’t just go with the flow, and you’ll have much more control of the outcome. So, if you haven’t been doing it already, start setting career goals for yourself today, and you’ll find that you’ll have a lot more clarity when it comes to making decisions about your career.
