Almost everyone has experience self pity feelings at some point in their life. For some people, this happens quite regularly, especially if they are focusing on the negative things in life and ignoring the good. You cannot stop bad things from happening, but you can change your perspective on them. Switching to a positive perspective will make you stop feeling sorry for self and start focusing on the good in life. Even in a seemingly bad situation, you can always find some good that may come of it.

Self pity and looking down on yourself will affect you both emotionally and physically. Most self centered people are regularly sad and depressed, and have a hard time fitting in with others. To get over it, try finding things about yourself that you are proud of. Focus on your strong points, not your weaknesses. By doing this you will start valuing and looking at yourself with a more positive point of view.

Feelings of discouragement can be combated by doing tasks and projects that you can achieve. It can be almost anything, in work or home life that you feel pride in doing. The more obstacles you overcome, the better youll feel about yourself, which increases self worth.

When looking at life, ignore the negative and only pay attention to the positive. Instead of solely looking at the things about yourself that you do not like, emphasize your attention on things you are good at. No one is good at everything, but everybody has strengths in some area. Acknowledge your weaknesses, but do not dwell on them. Pity yourself is a perception that will cause you to focus only on negative feelings in your life. Instead, think about others and the good that you have, and you will find yourself much more grateful for all that you have.
