No matter how you personally choose to define success, goal setting is key to achieving it. Ask just about any person who’s succeeded in your chosen field, and they will tell you that they had clear cut, well defined goals on their entire journey to where they are today. They’ll probably also tell you that those goals were written down, and kept somewhere where they would be reminded of them every day until they accomplished their success goal. Setting goals cannot be stressed enough, no matter what you want out of life.
And it doesn’t matter if you’re a young kid, a person in middle age who wants to start over and really go for it, or someone who’s in their sunset years. This rule applies across all age groups, races, occupations, nationalities, languages, countries, etc. It applies to women as well as men. The odds of accomplishing anything, no matter what it is, go way up when you use the power of goal setting.
Top performers are aware of this. Corporate hot shots who exceed last year’s departmental quotas did it by goal setting. In fact, they got to be a corporate hot shot in the first place through the power of goal setting. Michael Phelps, the incredible Olympic record setter in swimming, got to where is today by years of goal setting. Name just about any person who who’s had any kind of notable success. Goal setting was a big part of how they got there.
And if you don’t practice this skill, frankly, it’s unlikely that you’re ever going to be successful at any endeavor. You’ll be lacking the power of the drive and focus that go along with setting goals and reaching them. The good news is that you can learn this skill for yourself, and propel yourself to new height, no matter what you’re trying to accomplish.
